Signs and Signatures

The music by Bert Joris has everything to win the hearts of the audience: sensual, compelling, swinging, bluesy or exciting: with his harmonious compositions and colourful arrangements, Joris achieves the perfect balance between strong lyrical melodies and deep grooves. The album Signs and Signatures, with compositions by Bert Joris performed by the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, came out in 2010 and was acclaimed in both the Belgian and international press. The project has also become a favourite with audiences now, with memorable performances at venues and festivals such as Jazz Middelheim in 2011.

“One minute you’ll hear them play smooth elegant ballroom jazz, and the next they’ll break into the driving energy of ‘cooking’ big band jazz. Most of all, while the classical big band-format usually makes its impact within 3-4 minutes, these gentlemen and lady (pianist Nathalie Loriers) dare to play for 15 minutes without losing the underlying structure of the piece.” – Jazz Middelheim, 13/08/2011
