Fire Up That Big Band!

On 30 April 2023 - International Jazz Day - Brussels Jazz Orchestra will once again share its experience and know-how built up over the past 30 years with the big band community. Three big bands will be coached for a whole day by three BJO musicians. Orchestras and musicians complementing each other, that's what we're going for.

Sunday 30 April 2023 is all about inspiring, fascinating and exchanging. BJO musicians welcome 3 different big bands, alternately coached by each throughout the day. Each participating band will choose 3 works for which it would like coaching. Preferably, these are songs it has rehearsed before. The BJO coaches take on one of these compositions for each orchestra, which they work on during three rehearsal sessions in rotation. This way, each big band gets to know three BJO musicians who make their experience available. The coaches conduct, provide feedback and offer insight into the working methods of a professional. Their input provides the finishing touches to each orchestra's repertoire, perfect to take to an upcoming concert.

During lunch, there will be room for exchange between the musicians of the participating big bands. At the end of the day, the 3 orchestras will perform their repertoire during a show moment led by their respective coaches.

Closing concert

Fire Up That Big Band! will take place on 30 April 2023 at Vormingscentrum Destelheide, Dworp (Belgium). The closing concert at 5pm takes places at the bar of Destelheide and is open to the public.
