This fusion of art, music and spirituality is the first collaboration between the Museum of Fine Arts Ghent (MSK) and Brussels Jazz Orchestra. The orchestra asked young talent Lennert Baerts to compose music built around and inspired by the iconic painting by the Van Eyck brothers: the Ghent Altarpiece (or the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb). During a walk with headphones, the museum visitor traverses the collection, guided by a composition in seven parts: Mass of Seven Virtues. The music keeps the visitor company at seven carefully chosen places in the museum. Parth of Virtues is a walk past seven works of art, linked to seven virtues and seven reflections.
The selection of artworks, from Rubens to Bruegel, visualises a diverse range of virtues that invites visitors to explore the silence within themselves. Path of Virtues is a contemplative journey through art and music, where the MSK's cherished gems and the dynamism of Brussels Jazz Orchestra meet in a wonderful way.
Through meticulous curation, the project illuminates the interplay between art, spirituality, and the human condition.
