Rainer Tempel (DE), Ralf Hesse (DE), Callum Au (GB) and Christopher Zuar (VS) are the four finalists of the International Composition Contest. A ten-piece preselection jury listened to all 168 (!) submissions. Composers from 27 countries and 6 different continents sent in their compositions.
One of the finalists - Christopher Zuar - was also finalist in the 2014 edition of BJO ICC. Tempel, Hesse, Au and Zuar get ten weeks time to write a new composition for Brussels Jazz Orchestra.
An international jury which consists of Pierre Bertrand (FR), Florian Ross (DE) and Vellu Halkosalmi (FI), will choose the winner.
During the Brussels Jazz Festival in Flagey - on the 12th of January 2020 - the finalists will conduct their compositions, played by Brussels Jazz Orchestra. This concert is the final piece of their hard work. The winner wil receive the BJO ICC Award: a cash prize of €2000 and a professional audio and video recording of the premiere of his composition, performed by Brussels Jazz Orchestra.
