Luz del Sur. Jazz inspired by Flamenco

Luz del Sur is a journey south, to the blazing landscapes of Andalusia. The compositions of the Spaniard Perico Sambeat confirm that with the "enthusiasm" or "duende" characteristic in both the jazz and flamenco genres inspire a huge audience.

With this music, Sambeat moves one step closer to the harmonies and melodies of flamenco without neglecting his jazz roots. The version with large jazz orchestra takes the compositions down unexplored paths. In tanguillos, solea, bulería we find different flamenco styles resounding through a fusion characterised by an exceptionally sensitive jazz feel. The orchestra is augmented by Alba Carmona (vocals), Ana Salazar (dance), Juan Carlos Gomez (Spanish guitar) and David Dominguez (cajón).

The Brussels Jazz Orchestra has a nose for artists and projects with international class. Always on the lookout for interesting crossovers and challenges, the BJO came into contact with the Spanish saxophonist Perico Sambeat (1962), who, as one of the most important contemporary Spanish jazz musicians, has over twenty CDs to his name as a bandleader. The project Luz del Sur gives Sambeat a unique opportunity both as composer and soloist to perform in the northwest of Europe with the Brussels Jazz Orchestra.
